Review of Health Claims Regulation as it applies to botanicals announced

The European Commission on 7 October, published  a roadmap for a review of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims. The review will focus specifically on the areas of botanicals and nutrient profiles. EHPM welcomes this development and hopes this process can lead to a workable regulatory structure for botanicals. The review will involve a public consultation in the second half of 2016 that EHPM will participate constructively to. There will also be a specific stakeholder consultation with members of the advisory group on the food chain and animal and plant health of which EHPM is a longstanding member.

Creating a workable regulatory structure for botanicals was one of the key policy recommendations made by EHPM to the new Commission early this year. A copy of the roadmap for the review of the health claims regulation and EHPM's policy priority recommendations for the Juncker Commission are available for download here.
