EHPM Elects Michel Horn as Chair
At its General Assembly on 14 September, the European Federation of Associations of Health Products Manufacturers (EHPM) elected Michel Horn from its Belgian member association NAREDI as Chair. For more than 40 years, Michel has been the CEO of ORTIS, a Belgian family owned food Supplement Company with longstanding experience in the field of Botanical Health Products. He is also co-founder of NAREDI, the Belgian food supplement federation, which he chaired from 1994 to 2001, he actively participated to the process of drafting the Belgian plant preparations decree of 1997. He is still vice president of NAREDI.
Michel has been one of the driving forces behind the development of industry best practice standards such as the EHPM quality guide. He also hosted visits from the national and EU regulators at his manufacturing facility in Belgium including the current Commissioner for health and food safety Vytenis Andriukaitis. He has also represented EHPM at public events in the European Parliament and EU Member States where he has presented our best practice standards and vision for how our industry needs to meet the expectations of consumers for high quality, safe products that not only promise health benefits but also deliver them.
Responding to his election, Michel stated:
“I would like to thank NAREDI for nominating me for this position and all EHPM’s members for their support. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the board and the EHPM team to promote the interests for sector.”
On the key issue of botanicals, Michel stated:
“I take up the role as chair at a crucial point for our industry as the regulatory approach to taken towards botanicals hangs in the balance. I will work towards achieving an approach that ensures consumer have access to high quality products that deliver genuine health benefits. Protecting consumers and creating a workable regulatory framework for the SMEs, such as my own, which make up the majority of our sector are not mutually exclusive goals.”
On his vision for the association, Michel emphasised that:
“EHPM has led the way in developing industry best practice through our quality guide. We will continue to play our part by working constructively with all other interested stakeholders, the European Commission, Parliament, Council and national regulators”.
